How Does All On Four Work?

If you're missing all or most of your teeth, you've probably considered dentures as a way of replacing them. However, you may be all-on-4hesitant to make the commitment to dentures, as you might have heard about the time it takes to get used to wearing them and the inconvenience of cleaning and removing them frequently. At Hughes Dental Arts Centre in Herrin, IL, Dr. Christopher Hughes has improved upon that concept by using the All-On-Four technique, a permanent alternative to dentures that uses dental implant technology. Here's how it works:

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is simply a way to replace the root of a tooth.  It is a metal cylinder or screw that is surgically placed beneath the gum line into the jaw bone.  Once in place the implant(s) acts as an anchor to hold in a single tooth, a group of teeth, or even a whole set of teeth.

How does All-On-Four work?

For patients who would like an entire set of teeth (denture) to be secure and not move in their mouth, Dr. Hughes can place a minimum of 4 implants into the jaw.  The implants are then connected to the denture which holds it firmly in place.  The implant supported denture then becomes a natural and comfortable part of the mouth. It allows patients to chew, smile, and regain their confidence because it is just like having their natural teeth again!

How do I care for All-On-Four implants?

The convenience of dental implants can't be overstated. They are cared for in the same way as regular teeth - just brushing, flossing and checkups with Dr. Hughes keeps your All-On-Four implants secure and looking great. Although they are made from metal and porcelain and cannot decay, the gums around them need to healthy in order to maintain them for a lifetime.

If the All-On-Four implant system sounds like something that could change your smile and your life, we, at Hughes Dental Arts Centre in Herrin, IL, look forward to hearing from you. We'll set you up with a consultation that starts your journey to a beautiful new reason to smile!
