Laser Periodontal Therapy - Number One Treatment For Gum Disease

Gum disease – or Periodontal disease – is the leading cause of tooth loss.

Gum disease is an inflammation of the gums that is caused by the bacteria found in plaque. Risk factors for gum disease include age, smoking/tobacco use, stress, poor nutrition and certain medications. Although the symptoms of gum disease often are subtle, the condition is not entirely without warning signs. Certain symptoms may point to some form of the disease. These symptoms can include: gums that bleed during and after brushing, swollen or tender gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums and loose teeth.

Dr. Hughes and hygienist are excited to now offer Laser Periodontal Therapy.

Laser Periodontal Therapy is a laser based approach to treating gum disease using a diode laser.

To you the patient this means: less pain, less bleeding, less tissue removed, less down time and recovery time.  When receiving Laser Periodontal therapy treatment, there is virtually no pain or bleeding and as a result, your recovery time is dramatically reduced.

The advantage of using Laser Periodontal therapy is that only the diseased tissue is removed without removing any of the healthy tissue.  This allows maintenance the height of the tissue around teeth, while minimizing pain and discomfort to the patient.  Closure of the periodontal pocket wound is completed and healing can begin to take place.

Controlling periodontal disease makes it possible to save and restore otherwise hopeless involved teeth. The benefits of laser therapy include:

– laser light removes bacteria and diseased tissue, leaving only healthy tissue behind
– laser finishes cleaning pocket and aids in sealing the pocket closed so new germs can’t enter
– healing of gums to clean root surface occur
